Nillumbik Shire Council acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung as the Traditional Owners of this country, pays tribute to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Nillumbik, and gives respect to Elders past, present and emerging and their integral part in our region's history.

Services

Banyule Community Health 

The Aboriginal Health team deliver services and assist in running programs and groups for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, at Banyule Community Health centres and at the Barrbunin Beek Gathering Place.

The Aboriginal Health team can provide a range of services:

  • Support to manage contact with multiple different health professionals and service providers
  • Linking individuals to the specialist health and welfare services as you need them
  • Information and advice on chronic health issues
  • Child protection advocacy and legal support
  • Counselling
  • And much more.

Victorian Aboriginal Health Service

VAHS provides a variety of services including but not limited to dental, child health and counselling. In addition they have many community and wellbeing programs.

Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service VALS

VALS is able to offer legal support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the State of Victoria. Solicitors at VALS specialise in one of three areas of law, being Criminal Law, Family Law and Civil Law. VALS provides free legal advice and representation for the Koorie community.

13 YARN

13YARN [Thirteen YARN] is the first national crisis support line Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people who are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping. 13YARN offer confidential one-on-one support from a Lifeline-trained Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporter who can provide crisis support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Koorie Youth Council 

Led by by 15 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, the Koorie Youth Council host annual events like the Koorie Youth Summit, bringing together the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Young People to amplify the voices for social change.

AFL SportsReady Education & Employment 

AFL SportsReady have many dedicated Indigenous programs can provide traineeships, direct employment, cadetships and cultural awareness training. These services are offered to young people both of school age and those studying university.
