Nillumbeats Short Film Festival

The Nillumbeats Short Film Festival is an annual film making competition for high school students aged 12-18 who live, work, study or play in Nillumbik. Entries are assessed by a panel of film industry experts and selected films are played on the big screen at Hoyts Greensborough in December each year! Prizes are also awarded across a range of categories.

Our 2025 Winners:

On Tuesday 25 we hosted the 2025 Short Film Festival. 14 amazing films made by 22 talented filmmakers were screened. 

The films were judged by the Nillumbeats Committee with the support of a screen & media student at Collarts. Congratulations to the winners:

Most Original Idea - See A Penny by Mina Fraillon

Best Cinematography - The Venus Flytrap by Hudson Dyer

Most Inspiring Film - The Turnaround by William Hand

Funniest Moment or Character - Milk Bar by Finn Conley and Marley Davis

Third place - Blues by Harrison O’Toole

Second place - Flip by Flynn Jewell

First place - A Family Affair by William Genat

1st Prize

'Quick Change' By J Smith 

Hot-shot performer Naomi Crichton thinks of herself as a professional. Every week for the last month she has appeared in a new wave musical interpretation of Frankenstein, in which she has roughly four minutes and thirty seconds to completely change her costume and makeup, which is not a problem at all. Usually. Naomi is about to have a very bad day.
