Volunteering at Nillumbik Youth
Published on 22 April 2016
We’re pretty lucky at Nillumbik Youth. We’ve had many incredible young people volunteer with us and they have played key roles in helping us be the best team we can be.
Ella, is one of our dedicated volunteers. The Health Sciences student has been volunteering with us for a few months now, and has been an invaluable team member.
“The satisfaction I receive is purely to enrich my journey in life,” says Ella. “I am interested in community welfare and public health and to promote healthy living for all ages.”
The overseas student is hoping to gain new insight so that she is then able to take that knowledge back to her home country of Laos.
“I would like to promote Australian way of life especially its planning and policies for our community to move away from a third world country status," she said. "My aim in life is to lift my country and our people to have a better living standard and to receive all of the necessary assistance and community health and welfare.”
Ella’s reasons for volunteering include gaining new skills and experiences, feeling a sense of belonging to the organisation, and understanding how to work in a team environment.
“The hands on experience and training will be the foundation for the start of my professional career," she said.
"Volunteering gives me many different roles to take and many responsibilities for any work that I have been assigned to do. Although volunteering may not have pressure to perform in terms of obtaining recognition or promotion, but for me the benefits are the real life experiences that I will be able to utilise when I start my professional career.”
Thank you Ella for all your hard work – you’re dedication and commitment has been incredible.
