Congratulations to Madeleine who has recently got her P’s thanks to help from her mentor Dave. Madeleine has been mentored by Dave for the past 12 months as part of the Nillumbik L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program.
“My mentor Dave taught me to be safe, and how to handle certain events on the road. I also made a friend as a result,” said Madeleine.
The program is for young people up to 21 years of age in the Nillumbik Shire area facing challenges getting their mandatory 120 hours of driving experience before you can apply for your license. This could be a simple as not having access to a car or a supervising driver.
“I have been given a wonderful opportunity. If it weren't for L2P, I wouldn't have my license for years. Other people shouldn't pass that up, if they don't have anyone else to teach them.”
This program can help link up young people with someone in the community who can share their skills and knowledge of being a responsible driver.
“The first part is always scary. Having an experienced driver who you trust helping you out throughout the process eases a lot of that fear.”
With a licence, Madeleine looks forward to pursuing a career in games development when she completes her studies next year.
