Tyrian having fun

You’ve probably already heard of Tyrian, the talented young musician has been busy gigging around Nillumbik. You can often catch her playing at the Hurstbridge Post Office Café, Eden Cafe Hurstbridge and Eira Cafe Lounge in Eltham. This year she also played at local festivals such as the Rotary Eltham Town Festival, and earlier this year at Nillumbik Youth’s first ever Youth Festival.

The 16-year-old singer songwriter has already released an EP and more recently, released a new song ‘Strength’ with a music clip where she opens up about her personal experience of being bullied. She took a moment to have a quick chat with us.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a solo acoustic artist playing guitar. I do around 40 covers at my gigs and have written around 7 original songs. I draw on personal experiences and generally write about true events. I think my style is acoustic indie.

2. When and why did you start playing music?

I started playing drums at 12 years old with a group called Battalion through Jets Bundoora who were there to help kids growing up without fathers. This was really helpful. I starting singing and picked up a guitar while I was there and found it a totally natural thing to do and I wrote my first song ‘Veil of Tears.’

3. What music did you grow up listening to and who has been your biggest influences on your music?

I listen to all music since I was young, but my influences are Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Cold Play.

4. Whats coming up next?

Most weekends I do paid gigs at cafes, markets, pubs and all the local festivals, which helps pay for my music, recording, producing, equipment and mentoring and lessons.

We started filming for my second video clip ‘Make Me Smile’ later this month, which the wave file was just completed after the mastering and recording at Jets Bundoora.

5. Whats your dream gig, what venue and with who?

Dream gig is to tour with Ed Sheeran or Sam Smith and have a sold out Rod Laver Arena concert.

I would love to have my music playing on the radio, people buying my music and being able get something out of the emotion I have written about. I would love to complete my full LP and have regular booked gigs.
