Interview with Shamus, drummer from Shall We
Published on 07 March 2016
Meet Shamus, the drummer from local band Shall We. They’ve been performing locally and competing in the Battle of the Bands. Shamus isn’t new to the music scene, playing in a number of bands, and having been involved in the FReeZA live events team
in Nillumbik for 2 years in band promotion and sound production. He had a quick chat to us about his band Shall We.
1. Tell us a bit about yourselves.
Two cruise teens who thought of trying something new! Jamming at my place in Eltham (Shamus) and coming up with catchy fat tunes.
2. Tell us a bit about the band.
An even contribution in terms of writing as there is only the two of us. Instrumental drum and bass playing around with pedal and crazy tones. Big influences from legend drummer John Bonham and melodic genius Chris Squire!
3. When and why did you guys start playing music?
Midway through 2015, Michael (bass) had an idea and asked if I’d be keen. Surely enough I was down and we began to jam instantly. It seems to be working…
4. For people who haven’t heard your music, how would you sum it up?
A big explosive sound existing among only two crazy teens. Instrumental Jams to jiggy to and froth.
5. What music did you grow up listening to and who has been the biggest influences on your music?
Michael – learning Arctic Monley riffs was where bass started for me. Chris Squire infuences my technical style I’m beginning to develop now. Shamus – John Bonham of Led Zeppelin is my biggest influence.
6. What were you hopeing to get out of being involved in the Battle?
Well it was a little while ago now but overall it boosted our confidence majorly and now we’re playing more gigs outside of FReeZa.
7. What’s your dream gig, what venue and with who?
A festival with the following acts: Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood, Mac DeMarco, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Ty Segal, North East Party House and Seth Sentry.
Shall We have plans to release an EP soon.
