Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab

The Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab is a creative afterschool program for young people aged 10 to 18, to drop in, hang out, meet new people and take part in free activities within a supported environment. 

The Youth Maker Lab provides an opportunity for young people to make use of the facilities and equipment at the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School, and leverage the expertise available for their own projects outside of school hours. It will offer mentoring facilitated by trained mentors in areas such as programming, 3D printing, digital design and gaming.

With Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab due to launch in Term 3, Nillumbik Youth have partnered with Banyule Nillumbik & Whittlesea Tech Schools to offer a free 6 week introductory program to give young people a taste of what  Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab is all about.

Commencing Tuesday 19 May, the online program will take participants through a range of skills and work on projects online such as using microcontrollers, learning how to program a game, digital design, 3D design and more.

Time: Tuesdays, 3.30pm – 5pm

Venue: The program will be run online using Zoom (meeting invitation to be provided to participants once registered)

Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab

Program dates / times

The program will commence Term 3 2020 and will run on Tuesday’s between 3.30pm – 6pm during school terms as per the below schedule.

Term 3 dates: 21 July – 15 September (9 weeks)

Term 4 dates: 13 October – 24 November (7 weeks)


Term 1 dates: 9 February - 30 March

Term 2 dates: 27 April - 22 June

Getting there

Driving: Parking is available on campus. Parents will be welcome to stay during the program and will have access to the kitchen for tea/coffee facilities while they wait.

Transport: Students can take PTV Buses 343 and 901 to Civic Drive from the Greensborough train station.



Participants can register to participate in Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab for one term in 2020. Bookings are essential as spaces are limited to 30 participants. Please ensure you have read a copy the information pack(PDF, 463KB) before registering to participate in the program.

Wait List

The Nillumbik Youth Maker Lab program can only accept up to 30 young people at any one time and participants will be asked to commit to attending the program for the full term. If there is a cancellation in the program throughout the term, the next participant on the waitlist will be notified and given 3 days to respond and accept the place or it will be offered then to the next in line.

All participants on the waiting list will also be given first preference for booking into the following term of the program.
